Overview of Rusk County, Wisconsin
Rusk County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 15,347. Its county seat is Ladysmith.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,411 km² (931 mi²). 2,365 km² (913 mi²) of it is land and 46 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.91% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 15,347 people, 6,095 households, and 4,156 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (17/mi²). There are 7,609 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (8/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.69% White, 0.51% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,095 households out of which 28.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.90% are married couples living together, 7.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.80% are non-families. 27.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.97.
In the county, the population is spread out with 24.80% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 24.80% from 25 to 44, 24.10% from 45 to 64, and 18.50% who are 65 years of age or older.
