Tyler County is a county located in the state of West Virginia. As of 2000, the population is 9,592. Its county seat is Middlebourne.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 675 km² (261 mi²). 667 km² (258 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.20% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 9,592 people, 3,836 households, and 2,834 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (37/mi²). There are 4,780 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (19/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 99.35% White, 0.02% Black or African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 0.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,836 households out of which 30.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.40% are married couples living together, 8.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.10% are non-families. 23.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.89.
