Overview of Lee County, Texas
Lee County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 15,657. Its county seat is Giddings. Lee County is named for Robert E. Lee, the commander-in-chief of the Confederate army.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,642 km² (634 mi²). 1,628 km² (628 mi²) of it is land and 14 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.87% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 76.59% White, 12.08% Black or African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 8.87% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. 18.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,663 households out of which 35.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.00% are married couples living together, 8.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.70% are non-families. 23.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.15.
