Carson County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 6,516. Its county seat is Panhandle. Carson is named for Samuel Price Carson, the first secretary of state of the Republic of Texas.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,393 km² (924 mi²). 2,391 km² (923 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.10% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,516 people, 2,470 households, and 1,884 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.82% White, 0.58% Black or African American, 1.00% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.04% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. 7.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
