Bee County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 32,359. Its county seat is Beeville. Bee County is named for Barnard E. Bee, Sr., a secretary of state of the Republic of Texas.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,280 km² (880 mi²). 2,280 km² (880 mi²) of it is land and 0 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.02% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 32,359 people, 9,061 households, and 6,578 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (37/mi²). There are 10,939 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (12/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 67.85% White, 9.90% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 19.15% from other races, and 2.13% from two or more races. 53.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,061 households out of which 37.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.90% are married couples living together, 14.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.40% are non-families. 23.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.25.

In the county, the population is spread out with 23.40% under the age of 18, 13.30% from 18 to 24, 35.40% from 25 to 44, 17.80% from 45 to 64, and 10.20% who are 65 years of age or older.
