Lewis County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 11,367. Its county seat is Hohenwald. Lewis County is named for explorer Meriwether Lewis.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 732 km² (282 mi²). 731 km² (282 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.13% water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 11,367 people, 4,381 households, and 3,215 families residing in the county. The population density is 16/km² (40/mi²). There are 4,821 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (17/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.07% White, 1.45% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,381 households out of which 33.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.90% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.60% are non-families. 23.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
