Haywood County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 19,797. Its county seat is Brownsville.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,383 km² (534 mi²). 1,381 km² (533 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.18% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 19,797 people, 7,558 households, and 5,419 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (37/mi²). There are 8,086 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 46.73% White, 51.05% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.38% from other races, and 0.58% from two or more races. 2.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
