Do all children in Slovenia go to school?
The school system in Slovenia is fairly uniform, it is not such a large country either. There are preschools in Slovenia. Between the ages of six and seven, the children prepare for school entry there. You can also find a kindergarten in Slovenia, but only about half of the children attend one.
School attendance ranges from six to 15 years of age. Attending the school is free. First, the children go to elementary school for four years. In elementary school, similar to ours, a class teacher teaches. Subject teachers only teach from the fifth grade.
Those who want to continue attending school can do so and then go to secondary school. However, a good degree is a prerequisite here. What are beehive face boards?
Beekeeping, which has a long tradition of more than 600 years here, is typical for Slovenia. The beehive end boards are a specialty. These are painted boards that are attached over the flight openings of beehives.

Colored Easter eggs, gingerbread hearts and 1000 churches
Traditionally, the Easter eggs are decorated with patterns made of colored wax. This is a well-known custom in the south of Slovenia in particular. Each region has its own patterns that are used to decorate the Easter eggs. The Easter eggs from Vrhnika are something very special. With these eggs, thousands of small holes are drilled into the egg, so the egg looks like a point.
In Slovenia it is customary to give away brightly decorated gingerbread hearts at festivals. You don’t eat them, you keep them as a souvenir.
It is not without reason that Slovenia is also called the country of 1000 churches. There are many churches in Slovenia, also typical for the country.
What is so special about white horses?
The Lipizzaners are a very special breed of horse that is quite old. Their original homeland is Slovenia, even if the country was not yet independent when this horse breed began to be bred. The origin of this horse breed is the Lipica Stud, which is very close to the Italian border.
These horses can be recognized by the white color of their fur. They were often used at the Spanish Riding School. This is a special riding school in the Hofburg in Vienna, where the classic way of riding, as it was common in Spain, was taught and learned.

Slovenia has a long tradition of skiing. People were skiing here in the mountains as early as the 18th century. Skiing is still the most popular sport in Slovenia today.
