The city has an average elevation of about 300 feet and its climate is hot and humid in the summer months but mild to cold in the winter months. The town’s history dates back to early Native American settlements, which were later followed by Spanish explorers. In 1845, Onalaska was officially founded and named after the nearby Onalaska Post Office.
