Butler County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 8,767. Its county seat is David City.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,514 km² (584 mi²). 1,511 km² (584 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.14% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 8,767 people, 3,426 households, and 2,350 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (15/mi²). There are 3,901 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.38% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.81% from other races, and 0.40% from two or more races. 1.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,426 households out of which 33.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.90% are married couples living together, 5.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.40% are non-families. 28.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.13.
