Arthur County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 444. Its county seat is Arthur. Arthur County has the distinction of being the fifth smallest county (by population) in the United States, following Loving County, Texas, Kalawao County, Hawaii, King County, Texas, and Kenedy County, Texas.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,860 km² (718 mi²). 1,853 km² (715 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.41% water. In 2004, it became one of the most Republican counties in the country, giving 90.2% of its vote to Republican incumbnent George W. Bush compared to 9.1% to Democratic challenger John F. Kerry.


As of the census of 2000, there are 444 people, 185 households, and 138 families residing in the county. The population density is 0/km² (1/mi²). There are 273 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (0/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.40% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.23% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 1.58% from two or more races. 1.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 185 households out of which 27.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.20% are married couples living together, 7.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.40% are non-families. 21.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.80.

In the county the population is spread out with 23.90% under the age of 18, 5.40% from 18 to 24, 29.50% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 16.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 101.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.40 males.
