Mineral County is a county located in the state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 3,884. Its county seat is Superior.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,169 km² (1,223 mi²). 3,159 km² (1,220 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.29% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 3,884 people, 1,584 households, and 1,067 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (3/mi²). There are 1,961 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.57% White, 0.21% Black or African American, 1.93% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races. 1.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,584 households out of which 27.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.70% are married couples living together, 6.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.60% are non-families. 26.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.30% under the age of 18, 6.40% from 18 to 24, 25.30% from 25 to 44, 29.80% from 45 to 64, and 14.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 106.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.60 males.
