Ripley County is a county located in the state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 13,509. Its county seat is Doniphan.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,636 km² (632 mi²). 1,630 km² (629 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.35% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 13,509 people, 5,416 households, and 3,845 families residing in the county. The population density is 8/km² (22/mi²). There are 6,392 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (10/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.17% White, 0.04% Black or African American, 1.33% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 1.17% from two or more races. 0.98% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,416 households out of which 30.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.40% are married couples living together, 9.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.00% are non-families. 25.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.95.
