Cape Girardeau County is a county located in the state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 68,693. Its county seat is Jackson.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,518 km² (586 mi²). 1,499 km² (579 mi²) of it is land and 20 km² (8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.31% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 92.13% White, 5.28% Black or African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.75% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
