Grenada County is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population is 23,263. Its county seat is Grenada.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,164 km² (449 mi²). 1,092 km² (422 mi²) of it is land and 71 km² (28 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.14% water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 23,263 people, 8,820 households, and 6,297 families residing in the county. The population density is 21/km² (55/mi²). There are 9,973 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (24/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 57.92% White, 40.93% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,820 households out of which 33.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.90% are married couples living together, 18.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.60% are non-families. 25.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.09.
