Nobles County is a county located in the state of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 20,832. Its county seat is Worthington.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,871 km² (722 mi²). 1,853 km² (715 mi²) of it is land and 18 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.96% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 20,832 people, 7,939 households, and 5,517 families residing in the county. The population density is 11/km² (29/mi²). There are 8,465 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (12/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 86.50% White, 1.07% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 3.98% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 6.64% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 11.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,939 households out of which 32.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.80% are married couples living together, 6.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.50% are non-families. 26.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.50% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 26.60% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 17.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 99.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.40 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $35,684, and the median income for a family is $43,076. Males have a median income of $27,853 versus $20,346 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,987. 11.70% of the population and 8.20% of families are below the poverty line.
