Oscoda County is a county located in the state of Michigan. As of 2000, the population is 9,418. Its county seat is Mio.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,480 km² (572 mi²). 1,463 km² (565 mi²) of it is land and 17 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.15% water.


As of the census of 2000, there are 9,418 people, 3,921 households, and 2,717 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (17/mi²). There are 8,690 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.82% White, 0.08% Black or African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 0.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,921 households out of which 25.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.10% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.70% are non-families. 26.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.85.
