Cyprus is the pearl of the Mediterranean, attracting thousands of tourists, both with its ten thousand years of history and with its unique climate, thanks to which holidays in Cyprus are possible almost at any time of the year. Here everyone will find something to their liking – from the discos of Ayia Napa to the sights of Paphos. According to iTypeJob, Nicosia is the capital city of Cyprus.

Many families choose Cyprus for holidays with children. This is facilitated by a short three-hour flight, hotels with discounts for children, children’s pools and water parks, and, of course, the caring attitude of Cypriots towards children. Holidays with children are especially good in spring and autumn.

The sights of Cyprus are associated with ancient gods, biblical legends and the dramatic history of the island. The second name of Cyprus is the “island of Aphrodite”, here the goddess of love and beauty was born from sea foam and indulged in love pleasures. Many attractions are associated with her name and ancient Greek mythology. Christianity has had a huge impact on Cyprus, the island has many Orthodox churches and several monasteries. The most famous of them is the monastery of Kykkos, which owns one of the three surviving icons of the Blessed Virgin, written by the hand of St. Luke.

The beaches of Cyprus are considered among the cleanest in the world, each year receiving the “Blue Flag” for cleanliness, equipment and service from the European Commission for the Environment. Diving in Cyprus is accessible for beginners and interesting for pros. Even if you have never dived before, you can do the first dive after the briefing. For the pros, Cyprus is primarily interested in “wrecks” – sunken ships. Number one is the huge ferry “Zenobia”, which can also be viewed from the tourist submarine “Sadko”.

Nicosia – the capital of Cyprus – is located in the heart of the island.

In the old part of the city, many buildings and monuments of historical significance have been preserved: the Cathedral of St. John with unique frescoes; a museum of Byzantine art with an interesting collection of icons; the fortress wall built by the Venetians in the 16th century; restored gates of Famagusta (Amahostos) and much more. In addition, of great interest are: the State Gallery of Modern Art and the Cypriot Museum of Folk Art.

Not far from the Archbishop’s Palace and the Church of St. John lies the so-called “green line”, which divides the Republic of Cyprus into free territory and the northern part of the island occupied by Turkey.

For about thirty years the Greek Cypriots have been fighting for the liberation of their lands.

However, the manifestation of public protest did not have any effect on the occupiers, even when the protest began from the Turkish Cypriot side. The Cyprus problem remains unresolved to this day, and Nicosia is the only capital of the world divided into two parts. The only hope of the Cypriots for the reunification of the island was the process of accession to the EU, in which the island was to become free again.

However, in a referendum on April 24, 2004, the Greek community voted unanimously against (“OXI”) the reunification of the island under an unfair plan proposed by UN Secretary General Kofi Annanon. The world community, in particular the United States and England, highly appreciated the positive response of the Turkish Cypriot community in the same referendum, and thanks to their efforts, the embargo and international isolation of the northern part of the island were practically lifted.

Currently, Nicosia is the largest city with a population of about 300,000 people. The capital is easily accessible from any city in Cyprus, and Larnaca International Airport is only a 30-minute drive away. The capital is currently the main commercial and cultural center of Cyprus.

It houses the Russian Embassy in Cyprus, the Russian Cultural Center, and large business structures include representative offices of TNK and Lukoil.

In the center of Nicosia, in the picturesque old quarter, international conferences, exhibitions, fairs are held. Countless bars, restaurants, discos, taverns with international home cooking, as well as many shops and souvenir shops scattered at every step, are always at the service of the guests of the capital.

Any real tourist who comes to Cyprus considers it his duty to visit this unique city with its thousand-year history.
