Geography of Azerbaijan

The Republic of Azerbaijan is a state in the eastern part of Transcaucasia on the southwestern coast of the Caspian Sea. It borders with Russia (Dagestan) and Georgia in the north, Armenia in the west and Iran in the south. The Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, an exclave of Azerbaijan, borders Armenia in the northeast, Iran in the south, and Turkey in the west. Oil.  In the Talysh mountains, one of the exotic regions of the country, there is a subtropical zone with mixed and broad-leaved forests. Residents of Azerbaijan love to relax not only on the shores of the Caspian Sea, but also in the Gabala, Guba, Shamakhi regions, where a good tourist infrastructure has been created. There are hotels, boarding houses, and interesting tourist routes.

Nature of Azerbaijan

The territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan has a rich flora. Over 4,500 species of flowering plants are distributed here, among which there are rare and endangered ones. On the territory of Azerbaijan there are broad-leaved forests, mixed forests, tugai forests, plantations of evergreens, subalpine light forests, alpine meadows (in the mountains). The fauna of Azerbaijan is also very diverse. Bear, wolf, deer, lynx, wild boar are found in the forests. In arid zones and plains, there are a large number of lizards, poisonous snakes and other reptiles, as well as hares, wolves, and foxes. Wild boars, roe deer, badgers, and jackals are found in the Kura and Araks valleys. Of the large animals, goitered gazelles live. There is a Dagestan tour, roe deer, chamois. In the shallow bays of the Caspian Sea, the world of birds is abundant and diverse – pheasants, partridges, black grouse.

National reserves

The nature of the country is very rich. Even unique forests have been preserved on its territory – a monument of the Cenozoic era. They are not found anywhere else in the world. Therefore, it is not surprising that the government constructs and maintains many of its protected areas. Such reserves as Kyzylagach, Zagatala and Shirvan are of international importance. The Girkan Reserve protects relict vegetation in the area of ​​the Talysh Mountains and the Lankaran Lowland. The Turianchay Reserve protects the famous Eldar pine. The natural complexes of the eastern part of the Greater Caucasus are protected by the Ismayilli Reserve, and one of the most beautiful lakes in the world – Goygol, and the surrounding natural complexes of the Lesser Caucasus, are protected by the Goygol Reserve. No less interesting are Aggelsky, Basutchaysky, Karayazsky, Kyzylagadzhsky, Pirkulinsky, Turianchaysky reserves.
